About the Events

Join the Lackawanna Historical Society and the Delaney Delacy Guard, Sons of Veterans Reserve, as we host several events during the month of April 2008 in remembrance of the Civil War.

Camp #8 SUVCW, Aux#10 ASUVCW, Tent#59 DUVCW are proud to host the 2008 Appomattox Luncheon in Scranton on Saturday April 12, 2008 at 1:30 PM. A ceremony to rededicate the Soldiers and Sailors Monument located on Courthouse Square in downtown Scranton is planned following the luncheon. Click here for more information on the luncheon.

Returning for the 4th year, the Grand Civil War Ball will be held Saturday April 19, 2008 in the grand ballroom of the beautiful and historic Century Club. Step back in time to the mid-19th Century and re-create the dances that were popular during the Civil War period. Dance the waltz, polka, Virginia reel, schottische and many others just as your ancestors did over 100 years ago. Live music provided by vintage dance band, Spare Parts. This event sells out quickly, so advance registration is highly recommended! Click here for more information on the Grand Civil War Ball.

Not sure how to dance? No worries – it’s easy, it’s fun, and we will teach you! A series of 3 vintage dance lessons will be held on Wednesday evenings during late March and April. No prior experience is necessary! Also, an additional lesson will be taught by vintage dance instructor Martha Griffin on Saturday afternoon, April 19. Click here for dance lesson information.
